Standard Bank partners with uBettina Wethu to spark conversation about healthy finances

Standard Bank, the largest financial services organisation on the continent by assets and most valuable financial institution brand, is enabling aspiring South Africans to be part of important conversations about money through its integrated partnership with the popular uBettina Wethu season 2 show that will be aired on SABC 1 from 15 August 2022.

The bank plays the role of integration partner to the series as it aims to equip its customers with financial skills in innovative and resonant ways. Standard Bank is a distinctly African bank that believes that helping Africans to achieve their dreams, through tailored solutions, will bring growth to the continent. uBettina Wethu is a South African adaption of the international Ugly Betty show.

Itumeleng Matlaila, Standard Bank’s Head of Marketing  (Main Market, Youth) Consumer and High Net Worth, says the bank understands the challenges and opportunities in the South African context, which are reflected in the show. uBettina Wethu tells authentic, real-life South African stories that are widely relatable.

"Like Bettina, a talented girl who lands a nice job at a brand management company, our customers have legitimate dreams and desires for their lives. They identify with the challenges she faces like having to deal with realities of black tax   when entering the working world. Bettina will inspire these valued customers as she learns how to get to a comfortable financial position, which we can all relate to in our lives, and earn the living standard and social status she wants.

"Standard Bank also understands that customers continuously want to improve their financial health, which is covered by the show. For this reason, it supports the storyline of the show which highlights the perils of spending money too easily, getting into debt or being exploited financially by others.”

“Many of us will be inspired by the increasingly sound financial decisions of Betty who will be advancing in her career and increasing her earning potential   in the second season of the show or will identify with Linda, who is building a great financial legacy for her family.”

Standard Bank has elected to become the integration partner of the uBettina Wethu show as the bank shares the financial values promoted on the show and wants to partner with South Africans in becoming more financially savvy.

"Standard Bank understands that there are many Bettinas among our customers who want to gain access to career and business opportunities to build a better life for themselves. For this reason, we offer leading products, services and tools that help them to reduce their debt and save and invest to improve their financial health. When they are part of the conversation about managing money successfully, our customers improve their financial skills and reach their ambitions.

“Standard Bank understand the current realities that South Africans face and believes that facilitating conversations around some of these issues will help us to build healthy financial habits and help us to achieve our goals and dreams that will ultimately ensure that every generation lives better than the last.”
