Standard Bank Joy of Jazz
The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz is South Africa’s biggest jazz festival that has established itself as one of the most prestigious jazz events on the continent and world over. The event brings together a legion of international giants and luminaries of the jazz world, as well as leading lights of South African jazz scene.
The well documented history of Joy of Jazz and Standard Bank, has played a pivotal role towards the democratisation of the music genre in South Africa. The festival has grown from an audience of 2 000 to over 36 000 and continues to provide a platform where international artists have met their local counterparts and subsequently collaborated on various projects.
Importantly, the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz festival has also seen a phenomenal growth in the number of emerging jazz artists who have been given exposure and a platform to perform before discerning audiences. Standard Bank Young Artist for Jazz winners also appear at the festival, and most have gone on to perform at stages around the globe.
2024
In 2024 the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz celebrates its 25th year, it not only marks a milestone in the festival's history but also reflects the enduring love and appreciation for jazz in South Africa and the broader international community. The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the narrative of jazz in the region and remains a must-attend event for jazz aficionados worldwide.
