Mr Abubakar Sadiq Bello is a seasoned banker with over 24 years’ cognate experience in banking. He was until December 2014 an Executive Director with Mainstreet Bank Limited. Prior to this, he was a General Manager and the Chief Compliance Officer at Guaranty Trust Bank PLC (GTB). Mr Bello commenced his fulfilling banking career as a pioneer staff at GTB in 1990 and rose through the ranks. He headed various key management positions in various departments and units including Financial Institutions, Commercial Banking, Domestic Operations, E & P (Oil & Gas), Compliance, and Transaction Services. He was also Chairman GTB Registrars Limited (then a subsidiary of Guaranty Trust Bank PLC). He played a major role in the Bank’s migration of its Core Banking Application (CBA) from SBS to BASIS software. He formally exited GTB in July 2011 and was subsequently appointed as part of the Executive Management team to take charge of Mainstreet Bank Limited in August 2011 with responsibility for the “North Bank” Directorate.

He graduated with First Class Honours in Business Management from the University of Maiduguri (1987) and holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Benin (1990) where he received academic awards in Operations Research and Marketing Management. Mr Bello was the pioneer Chairman, Committee of Chief Compliance Officers of Banks in Nigeria; Vice Chairman, Committee of Heads of Bank Operations of Banks in Nigeria (CHBO); Member, Unique Taxpayer Identification Number (UTIN) Steering Committee; Member, MICR Technical Implementation Committee; and a Faculty Member of Financial Institutions Training Centre (FITC) and Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN).

He has attended various courses and seminars locally and abroad including the year 2000 Leading Corporate Renewal program at the prestigious IMD, Lausanne, Switzerland; the 2006 Cranfield General Management Program (CGMP), and the 2014 Stanford Graduate School’s Executive Program in Strategy and Organisation (EPSO).
