International banking 101

Everything you need to know about investing internationally

What is an international investment?

International investment is the process of investing your funds outside your home borders to diversify your portfolio and guard against risk. There are benefits to investing internationally, primarily when your bank of choice is based in Jersey or the Isle of Man.

These benefits include being based in economically and politically stable jurisdictions that offer exposure to larger market opportunities and access to hard currencies. Which gives you the chance to diversify your portfolio, grow your wealth and spread your investment risk.

How to invest internationally with Standard Bank

Digital banking has made international investment more accessible and intuitive than ever. You don’t even have to leave the house to start the process of investing internationally, and you can easily create a global investment portfolio with Standard Bank Offshore from the convenience of your home. Standard Bank Offshore’s range of international investment solutions include structured products and discretionary portfolio services.

How can I invest in structured products?

Structured deposits offer different levels of capital protection linked to an equity index, e.g. S&P 500 index, and are for a fixed period of up to 5 years. These index-linked deposits protect your deposit if the market falls at the end of the term but will pay out a percentage of the index growth at maturity upon a positive return– which can be above 100% at times..

A structured deposit offers greater certainty when investing in international markets with a known downside to your risk. We offer these deposits via our Jersey and Isle of Man teams. Structured notes are investment products for more sophisticated investors and require a higher minimum investment amount. Structured notes can be capital protected or have capital at risk.

The level of risk is tailored via your financial advisor based on your financial goals and circumstances. Products range from 1 to 5 years and can be linked to an equity index or interest rates. Our structured notes are offered only from Jersey to suit your needs.

Note: both offers are subject to eligibility.

Should I consider discretionary service?

Investing can be time-consuming and requires active involvement on your part. What if you had experts that understood your investment objective and could make investment decisions quickly on your behalf and react promptly to fast-moving markets?

A discretionary portfolio service is suited to you if you’d prefer to rely on a highly experienced team of investment professionals to entrust your funds to and manage the complexities of your investment portfolio.

Note: subject to eligibility.
