The 45th edition of the National Arts Festival in Makhanda (formerly Grahamstown)

The 45th edition of the National Arts Festival in Makhanda (formerly Grahamstown) takes place from 27 June to 7 July 2019. It is the largest arts festival on the African continent and one of the largest performing arts festivals in the world by visitor numbers.

The 2019 Main Programme of the festival forms part of a much broader offering of uncurated, unsolicited works and multiple focus areas for discussion and experience. It is a richly stimulating and thought-provoking journey through some of the issues at the top of artists’ minds and makes for a deep dive into what South Africa is grappling with and can reimagine if it has the will.

This year Standard Bank celebrates 35 years of sponsoring the National Arts Festival and is involved in a number of key areas of the festival including the Standard Bank Jazz Festival, the Standard Bank National Youth Jazz Festival, the Standard Bank Ovation Awards, the Children’s Arts Festival and Creative Digital Arts Festival.

Don’t miss out on more than 500 shows, from opera, cabaret, drama and jazz to stand-up comics and folk music and dance.
