Johannesburg – Despite the loss to Australia in Adelaide in the last game of the series over the weekend, the Standard Bank Proteas must be congratulated on their sterling effort in achieving an overall 2-1 Test Series win.

The tour consisted of three test matches, with the first two going to South Africa in emphatic fashion to seal the win before the last pink ball game in Adelaide under lights began.

“Apart from the stresses and strains that come with playing cricket in Australia, the team also came under immense media pressure during this tour. They showed the fortitude and character that can make us all proud to call ourselves South African and to achieve remarkable success both on and off the field,” says Hazel Chimhandamba, Head of Sponsorship, Standard Bank Group.

Ahead of the Adelaide game, the Proteas were in the enviable position of potentially becoming the first team to whitewash Australia 3-0 on home soil.

There was a wonderful sense of team unity in Australia and the Protea fire never died, no matter the challenges.

“Whatever the conditions, the Standard Bank Proteas have overcome every hurdle placed before them on this tough tour and there is little doubt they will only go from strength to strength. At Standard Bank, we wholeheartedly support the Proteas team on their journey to reclaim the number one title in the world. This team has what it takes to do just that, with their proud supporters there with them every step of the way,” says Ms Chimhandamba.

The next quests for the Proteas will be against Sri Lanka and then New Zealand.
